2013: Zach was able to get a W in his first 2 matches but wasn't able to hold on long enough Saturday afternoon. His strategy of driving it into the woods and then immediately take a 10 and conceding the hole turned out to be not as effective as planned.
2014: Zach struggled on Friday pretty significantly. But Saturday morning, he helped eek out a half point in what appeared to be on of the worst best ball matches in the history of golf. But all of that was forgotten after putting a beating on Dan-o in the biggest trash talking matchup the Lietke Ryder Cup has seen.
2015: No one remembers what Zach did in his first two rounds. All everyone needs to remember is the way he strategically (got him really drunk) dismantled Dan-o for a second straight year with a narrow one hold victory.
2016: The silent assassin went a perfect 3-0 on the weekend. Paired up with the bandit on Friday they held off Ken and Jeff in a tight 2&1 match. Then, Casey and he handled Ken and Jason setting up a 2-0 Zach vs. 2-0 Dan-o in the 1 on 1 match. Dan-o wanted redemption for the last two years. But Zach’s 10 iron and his 2 bottles of Fireball were too much for Dan-o. Zach put him away to move to 3-0 head to head against Dan-o.
2017: Zach had a 800 lb angel on his shoulder on Friday afternoon being paired with Barkeley. Zach played good enough to help Barkeley secure the victory 2&1 over Jeff and Jason. He then tried to keep Kevin’s spirits up Saturday morning but lost a tough match by 1 on the 18th hole. But his confidence was high and his alcohol level was low going into the 100$ sidebet match with Dan-o in the 1 on 1. Zach was pretty sober and Dan-o had already had half a box of cabernet when they teed off. Zach jumped out to an early lead but Dan-o stormed back to take the lead. Zach reverted back to what he does best……drinking. He got himself and Dan-o so drunk it was the worst back 9 in the history of golf. Thanks to a 10 shot maximum, Zach’s 78 on the back 9 was enough to defeat Dan-o and his red-soaked shorts’ 80 on the back. Zach won the match and a 100$ which he promptly lost (probably in the hot tub). But let’s face it, there wasn’t really a winner in that disaster of a golf match.
2018: Zach started out strong with a 5&4 victory on Friday. But on Saturday he had 36 holes with Ken and was simply outsmarted by Ken. The groundwork was laid in the morning match as Zach lost a tough 1DN match to Ken and Andrew. But then the Fireball really kicked in on the back 18. Zach lost consciousness before the back 9 and Ken skated to a 6&5 victory. After the round Zach managed to lose his entire bag of clubs which was enough to earn him LVP “honors”
2019: Zach started off his Ryder Cup in typical fashion, by beating Dan-o. He teamed up with Patty and took down Nathan and Dano 1UP. Next he teamed up with Ty and got a HUGE victory 2&1 against Jason and Ken. Luckily it was overcast in the morning so sunburns were at a minimum. Zach was in a perfect spot to take the MVP award if he could just beat Ken who had to forfeit the day before. But Ken turned the Fireball on Zach and took him out of commission by the turn. Still 2 big victories for Zach helped retain the Ryder Cup for Cobra Kai. Another bonus was Zach lost his wallet for most of the weekend so he “didn’t have to pay for shit”.
2021: Zach had another decent year at the Ryder Cup, most likely because he is forced to be sober. He paired with the Cobra Kai captain in the opening round and was able to take down the Lombardo captain and Kyle, no surprise there. On Saturday morning, he stumbled through the round with the Ultimate Warrior, EB, but wasn't able to pull off the victory against The Boss and Scott. Saturday afternoon, because Zach was sober, he was able to keep pace with Jeff. Believe it or not, Zach was able to save about 20 strokes due to sobriety and shoot a 114. Zach was actually down 4 through 6 holes and 3 down at the turn. Winning the first 3 holes on the back nine, Zach was able to pull it back in to all square. Two back to back bogies on 15 and 16 all but sealed the victory for Zach as he cruised on to a 2&1 final.
2022: Zach was back in mild sobriety, usually drinking heavily until about 9AM before he would need to stop for next blow test. He was paired with Poet, and couldn't hit a shot to save his life. Dano and Statenstache took another victory. On Saturday morning he was with his buddy Luke. Luke was on fire in 2022 and they were able to easily manage the Lombardo team of NIck and Jeff. Zach had a new 1v1 competitor in Jason this year as Dano has moved on to more difficult matchups against EB. Zach was able to keep it close through the first 10 holes, down only 1, Jason broke it open on the back nine with a couple huge pars. Zach lost all confidence and Jason was able to roll to an easy victory!
2023: The LVP! Despite his overwhelming support to earn LVP, Zach actually managed to keep some matches very close. He lost 2 of the last 3 holes on Friday afternoon to end up 1 DOWN to Ken and Scott. Then in the featured match Saturday morning, he and EB managed to lose on the final hole to Nathan and Nick, another 1 DOWN finish. But that’s where the story ended as Kyle mopped the floor with him forcing a quick concession in the 1 on 1 match.
Player Bio
Zach isn't recognized as one of the more talented golfers on the Cobra Kai, but he is a gamer. If Zach can stay sober he is real contributor to the team, however that is a very big if. You might confuse Zach with Jason on the course. They have similar swing paths and they will both be battling one another for the worst sunburn on the course.
Ryder Cup Highlight
Without a doubt, Zach's Ryder Cup highlight came in the 2014 1 v 1 matchups. In an extremely heated battle, Zach surprised everyone by wiping the fairway with Dan-o. That was arguably the biggest swing point of the entire 2014 Ryder Cup. Winning that much helped push Cobra Kai over the edge to get the 2014 victory.
Fun Fact
Zach has the uncanny ability to get sunburnt at any time of the year and in any type of climate. He steps up on the back nine and usually attacks the hole aggressively around 15 and 16, but I'm talking about the age of his girlfriends.
