2013: Searge took home the MVP award in 2013 with a perfect 3-0 record. He earned the three victories as all of them were by less than two holes. One of the most impressive performances of the weekend was downing his Bloody Mary on Saturday morning. It was the first clear Bloody Mary in Ryder Cup history. Searge truly is royalty in the Crystal Palace.
2014: Another 3-0 performance out of Searge. The amount of stress put on him throughout the weekend must have taken a few years off of his life. Sweating profusely with Zale as his partner Friday took a toll. Saturday he was battling a brutal hangover after getting only a few hours of sleep. Those hours came while sitting in a chair surrounded by pizza. Another 3-0!
2015: The reign of terror is finally over. After two straight years of unbeaten golf, Searge was forced back down to reality with consecutive losses to C-Lo on Saturday. He did help earn a huge point against a queasy Brandon on Friday afternoon.
2016:A disappointing loss to Brandon and Patty on Friday nearly sent him into a tailspin for the weekend. He followed it up with a loss to C-Lo and Barkeley on Saturday morning sitting at 0-2 and staring a potential LVP weekend right in the face. Searge gave up a 3 hole lead on the back 9 but bounced back winning #17 and holding on for a 1UP victory.
2017: Sarge was the shining star of the Lombard Team. An easy opening around against the Cobra Kai captain propelled Sarge in to a great Saturday. Copious amounts of insanely dark craft beer mostly held him in check avoiding the typical Cobra Kai ploy of shots and bubblers. Saturday morning started with an absolute shellacking of Barkeley and Brad. Barkeley quit golfing at the turn and focused solely on Moose Heads. Sarge re-focused after his big win for the star matchup between C-Lo and Steve. An epic match led to Steve holding on for a 1UP win on this pivotal Saturday afternoon.
2018: After Sarge’s breakout year in 2017, a much tougher year was in store for the Lombardo MVP. An early Friday afternoon loss to the Bandit and Steve G. put a damper on the rest of the weekend for Sarge. Doing everything he could to put the Friday match out of his mind, he tried to re-focus for Saturday. Unfortunately, he quickly fell behind 5 points in the first 6 holes against his arch-nemesis C-Lo (along with a little help from Patty). It was an uphill battle from there, with no recovery. A small win for his own morale on Saturday afternoon against Brad kept his head up for a 2019 comeback.
2019: Sarge had a tough start with E-Dub in the opening round, starting 3 down at the turn due to C-Lo and Davey shooting 1-under par on the front nine. They were never able to bounce back in the opening round to counter the Cobra Kai aces. Sarge turned it around in the second round with the prior MVP, Zale. The final 1v1 match against C-Lo was an up and down affair, with Sarge leading by 1 hole at the turn. Up 2 with 4 holes to go, Sarge knew the match was far from over. C-Lo fought back in the last 4 holes to bring it all square in to 18. They both bogeyed to take the match All Square. With the 2020 COVID Cup, this long awaited rematch will be rekindled in 2021.
2020: Sarge captained the Prestige Worldwide team in to the first (and hopefully only) COVID Cup. Going 1-1-1 Sarge had an up and down tourney however was still able to captain his team on to victory!
2021: Searge had a tough time early on in the scramble pairings from Nathan. Searge and The Boss could never find their groove and the dynamic Cobra Kai duo of Patty and Brad took them down with 2 holes remaining. Searge and Zale found themselves down 3 thru 10 and battled back to even winning 3 successive holes. It wasn't enough as they were down only 1 with 2 holes to go but couldn't find a way to win either of the last 2 holes, going bogey/par. Searge was able to rematch against C-Lo. The hangover from the prior to rounds, along with Friday night, put him in trouble; 2 down through 2. He was able to win the next 4 holes and they found themselves AS at the turn. Even going in to 17, Searge was able to win the final two holes as C-Lo struggled to find his game. While it wasn't enough for Lombardo to win the weekend, it certainly put C-Lo's tail between his legs hoping for a new 1 on 1 match in 2022.
2022: The Captain's match started out the weekend on the wrong foot, with a tough loss to the Cobra Kai captains in the Friday afternoon match. From there, Searge turned it around with Zale against the LVP, EB and Poet. In that match, Searge fell in love with Poet, pushing hard to get a trade to get him on his team. Searge's 1v1 match against The Bandit was a rout, as Davey was in way over his head with the Lombardo Vice-Captain and will be looking for a new matchup next year.
2023: Searge came into this year's Ryder cup guns a blazing, ready to redeem himself and Team Lombardo. His first match with Nick against Patty and the twerp, Bandit went well, and Lombardo was able to squeeze out a victory. Saturday morning Searge paired up with Ken S, forming a formidable team and smoked Bryan and Gordo, so much so, Bryan didn't want to come back this year after that ass whooping. The annual Searge/C-Lo matchup was definitely the main event of Sunday afternoon. It was truly back and forth on the front nine, with it all square going into 10. Clo took a 2-hole lead on the 16th hole, all but sealing his victory, but Searge had other ideas. He went par/par on the last two holes, getting the two-hole advantage back to AS where the match ended. While this half point wasn't needed for a Lombardo victory, it was sure symbolic of the Lombardo spirit at The Loon.
Player Bio
You can pencil Searge into win the award for drunkest left handed golfer under 5'10 to hit off a grass tie every year. He will rival Kevin Dever for best dressed and most accessorized. Searge is definitely one of the fiercest competitors for Team Lombardo. The only thing that could slow him down are massive amounts of Crystal Palace vodka and chewing tobacco.
Ryder Cup Highlight
Steve's Ryder Cup highlight came in 2014. With all the hype surrounding his perfect 2013 Cup performance, the pressure was monumental. Against the Cobra Kai leadership Friday afternoon in the 2 man scramble, he was able to rally his teammate and gather a come from behind victory to keep the perfect record intact and to reign superiority over the Cobra Kai's finest.
Fun Fact
The last time Searge golfed a round without using his "grass tee" was the also the last time he golfed a round sober…..NEVER. Searge has an uncanny ability of never losing bets…and by never losing, I mean never paying up on a lost bet.
