2013: No one will remember the epic collapse on the back 9. All anyone should remember is the clutchness to win the 54th hole and tie and the Ryder Cup!
2014: After battling with Searge and Zale on Friday, Brandon was able to ride on Barkeley's back Saturday morning and hold off the drunken stupor in the afternoon until the back 9 to gut out two Saturday victories leaving this Ryder Cup Captain undefeated on Saturday in 2 years.
2015: A horrific 0-3 performance in 2015 was not made any better with a demoralizing regurgitation on the 15th fairway of the Friday scramble round.
2016: A bounce back year for the captain going 2-1 including a big 2 man scramble victory over Nathan and Searge in the Captain’s match. He was not able to bear the annoying Eckles on Saturday morning and suffered a harsh defeat but bounced back against Nathan in the 1 on 1. After suffering a penalty shot on the first hole and losing it, he shot 8 pars in the next 9 holes with career best 42 on the front 9 and never looked back.
2017: It was an up and down year for Brandon. On Friday afternoon, vice captain Patty and he battled Searge and Nathan and were in good shape until we received word that Ken was in the medical tent. Brandon had to finish the round by himself and blew it. However, he bounced back by once again outsmarting Lombardo and getting Dan-o into the cabernet 8:30am. This resulted in a victory and Zale’s only ever Ryder Cup loss. Then again, Brandon was stuck with Dan-o for another 18 that proved to be the longest round ever played. 2018: Brandon set a rigorous pace Thursday with the limoncello. That proved costly as he woke up in a karate gi in complete confusion Friday morning. But Kevin carried the load and took down two Lodings Friday. Saturday morning Brandon had his head on a little straighter as he and Brad were able to take down Dan and Scott in a tight match. But the wheels fell off in the afternoon as the Rich and Rare really kicked in and suffered a meaningless loss to Andrew in the afternoon.
2019: Captain Brandon had a rough go of things in 2019. Before the tournament even started, he was yelling at the proshop accusing people of “being liars!!!”. In the first round he and Ty had the monumental task of taking down Ken S and Ken M (from the forward tees). They hung tough for a while but the Kens pulled away on the back 9 and Brandon had to leave the match to dig Ken’s cart out of the woods and medical evac him back to the house. To make matters worse, he suffered a vicious “Boss Bite” which obviously affected him the rest of the weekend. Teaming up with CLo, they got destroyed but the red hot duo of Staten and Dano. Rounding out the final round against Dan was more of the same ass kicking. The influence of Gordon overcame him. Brandon ended up with a horrendous 0-3 taking home the LVP.
2021: Well, once again, the Captain of the Cobra Kai found a way to win the weekend, while at the same time having one of the worst personal golf showings of his career, not withstanding 2019 LVP award. He paired himself up with Zach in what was arguably the worst golf match ever, facing Nathan and Kyle. They somehow broke 80 and took the match 4&3. On Saturday morning, the captain paired himself with the Bandit against Jason and Jeremy and definitely forced the Bandit down to his level, losing the match 4&2. They were down 2 at the turn and never had a chance. The afternoon matchup against Statenstache was most definitely an expected loss, but he was able to keep it somewhat close only down 3 at the turn. Staten never relinquished the lead and was able to win 4&3. At that point, Staten was also able to take an additional $100 from the Captain by beating him right handed.
2022: Surprisingly, this was a year that the Cobra Kai captain actually won a few matches, but it was most likely due to his pairings with Patty and Brad. The Friday afternoon match was the highly anticipated Captain's match. The Lombardo team did everything right to win this match, but the Cobra Kai captains found a way to capitalize on the back nine and take the match 1UP. Saturday morning, Brandon paired himself with one of the Cobra Kai aces, Brad. They were too much for the Lombardo pairing of Ken S and Jason. Jason likely spent way too much time up talking about the KC Chiefs the night before. The 1v1 match had a lot of smack talk leading up to the match with Brandon's nemesis, Dan M. The Cobra Kai captain came out firing, with a birdie on the first hole. Dan wasn't rattled and won the 2nd hole. Dan continued to play strong golf and was up 2 through 9, shooting an opening 45 on the front nine. Into the back nine, Dan never looked back with Sideburns only winning 1 hole. Dan ended up shooting a solid 89 on a tough Sundance course, finally settling the off the course feud and solidifying his victory in Lombardo fame.
2023: The captain took on Andy as a partner for the first round. Victory was sealed over Team Eckles but not without some back 9 pressure after we started celebrating a little too early. Poised for an upset on Saturday morning, I was paired up with Rick taking on Poet and Dan (who I don’t think I’ve ever beaten at anything). An impressive score of +2 wasn’t enough to get the job done. I was hitting the ball well heading into the final round against Scott, however a 16th hole collapse of not being able to find my ball in the middle of the fairway finished me off. Another disappointing 1-2 year for the Cobra Kai Captain.
Player Bio
Captain of the Cobra Kai. Brandon is not a very good golfer, but born to be a captain with tremendous self proclaimed leadership skills and clutchness. If Brandon is wearing a shirt on the golf course, it's usually Cobra Kai or Hawaiian, but that is a big if.
Ryder Cup Highlight
The inaugural Lietke Ryder Cup came down to the last hole in the 1 v 1 matchup. Brandon and Nathan were all square thru 17 holes and Brandon had to win that hole to get a victory in his 1 v 1 match and more importantly an overall tie of the Ryder Cup. A booming drive down the middle set him up well and eventually the crowd pleasing bogey was enough to win the hole and tie the 2013 Lietke Ryder Cup.
