2013: Eric recorded the 2nd biggest ass kicking (see Andy vs. Dan-o) of the weekend when he took down Patty on Saturday afternoon and almost drove him into retirement. Eric finished a perfect 3-0 on the weekend.
2014: Eric played 3 great rounds but could only manage one victory. He battled with the 2014 MVP Dave Barkeley all weekend and the Saturday afternoon 1 v 1 sounded like a match for the ages. If battling Barkeley wasn't difficult enough, he had to ride in the same cart as Kyle on the final 18 holes.
2015: Eric started off 2015 with a blowout win over C-Lo and Luke. However he ran into the buzzsaw of C-Lo and Barkeley on Saturday morning and suffered a tough loss. In a remarkable effort he was able to overcome Barkeley's non-stop antics (and non-stop talking) in order to earn half a point and continue this great 1 on 1 rivalry.
2016: A dominating MVP weekend for Eric. He survived his toughest round on Friday (having to be partnered up with Eckles) and coasted to an easy victory on Saturday morning against Patty and the Bandit. It was a back and forth match with Barkeley and was all square heading into the 18th hole but Eric’s par on 18 was good enough for the win and sent the big Grizzly Bear Barkeley into hibernation.
2017: A great start to the 2017 outing ended in a total meltdown on Saturday afternoon for E-dub. His Friday afternoon match up with Zale was an epic one – defeating the team of Steve and Brad. With a good first day, Eric slipped in to the typical Cobra Kai Friday night antics of too many shots. This led to a tough start to the morning round with a half-coherent Kyle Eckles. The morning match was doomed from the beginning against the slippery Cobra Kai captain and his little sidekick, Casey. The afternoon round left much to be desired, with Barkeley mopping up the floor of E-dub with what was left of his Moose Heads.
2018: With the new addition of the Bandit’s brother to Lombardo in 2018, Eric found a great partner in the scramble and squeaked out a 17th hole par to beat Luke and Barkeley. Unfortunately this first round win, was the only win on Friday for Lombardo. It was all players for themselves after that point. Barkeley and that twerp, the Bandit, got the best of Eric and Jason on Saturday morning. Cobra Kai was up 2 at the turn and never looked back. Saturday afternoon was a tight matchup against C-Lo. It was AS through 17, heading in to 18. Eric’s triple bogey on 18 sealed the match for C-Lo, all but confirming the 2018 Lombardo debacle.
2019: Eric and Searge paired up on the Friday afternoon match of the day against C-Lo and Davey, however, the match started out a bit lopsided and Team Lombardo found themselves down 3 at the turn. Fighting back to within 1 was all they could muster before the slippery Bandit and his Cobra Kai thugs snuck the win. Saturday morning found Eric in a similar situation with Dan M., down 4 at the turn. Team Lombardo was never able to recover and lost the match 3&2. Eric was hell bent on redemption from his Saturday morning round against Brad in the 1v1 match, Eric quickly lost the lead and once again found himself down 3 at the turn. Losing 2 more on 10 & 11 really took the wind out of his sails. Eric rallied with a Par and a birdie on 12 & 13 to bring it back within 3. Tieing 14, 15 was a must win hole. Eric was able to Par-Birdie-Par on 15, 16 & 17 taking ALL 3 holes. Going in AS in to 18, Brad and Eric both bogeyed to make the match AS. Possibly the largest 1v1 comeback in Ryder Cup history all in the back 9.
2020: In the first COVID Cup, Eric captained the Smugglin' Plums team, tying for 3rd (and last place) with the formidable Perkis Power team. Going 1-1-1, Eric had a decent showing, but the rest of his team really laid eggs out on the course bringing the entire Smugglin' Plums team down to the bottom of the barrel.
2021: Eric started out the 2021 Ryder Cup with Scott dominating the CLo/EB pairing. The Cobra Kai captain learned quickly that this pairing was not effective as they spent the entire time kicking each others shins. Eric was paired with Nick on Saturday morning against Brad and Ty. This match was a close one through the turn and was AS through 14. A difficult double bogey on 15 and a Cobra Kai birdie on 16 sealed the loss. Unfortunately for Eric, he wasn't able to carry over any positivity in to his 1v1 versus the Bandit. He was down 4 at the turn and never recovered. Eric's disappointing year was shared amongst many on Team Lombardo, but Eric will be back to fight again in 2022.
2022: Eric started out Ryder Cup paired with Ken S and demolished the Cobra Kai team of Ken M and Mel - the senior tour members. Eric then was paired with Kyle unfortunately on the Saturday morning round. They actually kept it close against the Mel/Bandit pair, but weren't able to pull of the victory in the end as Kyle started hitting the vape a bit too hard early in the day. Eric's 1v1 match was against Poet. Eric found himself down 3 through 5 holes and ultimately down 4 at the turn. Things were not looking too good. He won 3 of the next 6 holes to get within 1 of Poet, as Poet was likely partaking too heavily in the beer cart shenanigans. Poet was able to pull out a win on hole 16, which all but sealed the victory. Fortunately for Eric, Poet can likely be a partner in 2023 Ryder cup instead of a nemesis.
2023: Eric had another solid outing in 2023, except for his pairing with Dano. Clearly Dano just annoyed Eric the entire morning and was totally thrown off his game. Friday afternoon, Eric partnered with Poet, and they proved a formidable pairing. They were able to take down Rick and Casey 4&3. As mentioned, Eric joined up with Dano on Saturday morning, which was a disaster as soon as it was declared a pairing. They lost mightily to Marc and Davey. Enough said. Saturday afternoon, Eric was matched up against the newcomer Bryan and was looking for a bounce back. He did just that. Eric won the first hole, but Bryan was able to take holes 2 & 3. Eric pulled ahead on hole 8, winning both 8 & 9. He took a two-hole lead into the turn. Bryan battled, winning 10 with Eric winning 11. The matched stayed with Eric as a 2-stroke leader thru 15. Eric was able to win 16 with a double bogey sealing the match 3 & 2.
Player Bio
If there is another person to better represent Team Lombardo, I don't know who it is. A high school teacher who owns a sailboat and previously owned a jeep. All that’s missing are the sexual harrassment charges that I'm sure are coming. Eric is definitely one of the better golfers on Team Lombardo. If you see him all weekend without a drink in his hand, it's probably not him. Beer cart girls beware of this guy.
Ryder Cup Highlight
Eric's Ryder Cup highlight came in 2013. With a perfect weekend on the line he headed into Saturday afternoon with only Patty Mihelich in his way. A lot could be said for the great round that Eric shot that afternoon, but the highlight came while getting a front row seat to the epic meltdown of the Cobra Kai's alternate captain. Few can say they were able to witness that unravelling. Eric got to live it.
Fun Fact
Eric actually teaches an Aerobics and Body shaping class in school. That should give him and Barkeley a lot to talk about during their Saturday matchup.
